The Artist

Gerry kayakingKnown to friends as Gerry, the artist often writes or sketches with watercolor pencils in her kayak off Orcas Island, on the Willamette River, or while strolling along the Metolius and other rivers where her husband and son fly fish. Her sons recent sojourn for college in Maine has added new inspiration for the work.

Gerry is active in peace and justice work. Now free-lance, she taught at Lincoln High in Portland, Oregon for 20+ years, where she mentored the award-winning magazine, Polyglot. She co-founded the MFA in Writing program at Pacific University and occasionally consults on program implementation and design.

The artist’s studioOf her life and work, Gerry states: I am a poet and teacher witnessing, in a changing world, drawing upon familiar northwest landscapes for symbols both personal and universal, stemming from my roots as a fourth generation Oregonian .

Geraldine attended Stanford, San Jose State and Portland State universities, and earned her Masters from Reed College. She creates her art in her Portland studio and wherever her travels take her.
